Italy | Exploring the Enchanting Isle of Capri in One Day

Capri is one of the most stunning spots in southern Italy and makes for an easy day trip from Naples. You can stroll through the charming streets of the old town, hike to the island’s highest point for breathtaking views, or explore the famous Blue Grotto with its mesmerizing blue waters. If you’re planning a visit to this enchanting island, here’s everything you need to know:

1. Island Boat Tour: A boat tour around Capri, lasting about two hours, is a must-do activity. Boats depart from Marina Grande, where ferries from Naples arrive, and the tour costs €18 per person. You’ll get to see the island’s bays and coves from the sea, with most tours including a stop at the iconic Blue Grotto. Note that the ticket to enter the cave is not included in the tour price.

2. Grotta Azzurra (Blue Grotto): This sea cave is one of the most magical places in Capri. The water inside is a vivid blue that almost looks unreal. However, be cautious upon entering as the cave’s entrance is only one meter high, requiring you to lie down on the boat. The visit takes about 5 minutes, and the best time to see it is between 12 and 2 PM. Entry costs €13 per person.

3. Chair Lift to Monte Solaro: The ride up Monte Solaro, which stands at 589 meters, offers some of the best views in Capri, including sights of the famous Faraglioni rocks. The chair lift ride takes 12 minutes, giving you a flying sensation. A return ticket costs €10, and a one-way ticket costs €7, with operations running from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

4. Old Town: Capri’s old town is both beautiful and chic, and it’s a spot you shouldn’t miss! The best way to get here from Marina Grande is by taking the funicular for €1.80. The famous Piazzetta, or little square, is the heart of the island, always bustling and crowded with people. Here you’ll find Santo Stefano Church, as well as numerous restaurants and high-end boutiques. Don’t miss out on visiting Via Vittorio Emanuele, Via Croce, and Via Camelle.

If you have the time, consider spending the night on Capri. The island has a unique nighttime atmosphere that’s perfect for a romantic getaway. While many hotels can be pricey, there are some affordable options if you search carefully.
