Exploring Tuscany's Coastal Gem: Sterpaia Park in Piombino

Sterpaia Coastal Park is a beautiful, wooded area that gives you a taste of the ancient coastal landscape of Maremma. Nestled in a wide gulf between Piombino and Follonica, it covers about 296 acres, inviting you to wander through oak forests alongside small forest animals. Eventually, you’ll find yourself at the sand dunes and the sea. Located just south of Piombino, Sterpaia Coastal Park offers a serene escape.

The park features extensive sand dunes that house stretches of coastal pine forests. These wooded areas provide a cool retreat during hot summer days, with the shade of pine trees and the soothing sound of cicadas. Beach lovers will find 17 hectares of sandy shores, stretching approximately 10 kilometers along the coastline. This area includes facilities, restaurants, and picnic spots. The main beaches are found in Perelli, Carlappiano, Mortelliccio, La Pineta, Carbonifera, and Torre Mozza. The roads leading to the park entrances and beaches branch off from the “geodesic” road that connects Riotorto and Piombino.

For those who prefer the northern coastal areas of the Follonica-Piombino coastline, the Gulf of Baratti offers delightful pine forests and beautiful beaches.
