Mallorca | A2 Architects’ Enchanting Cave Bar Experience

A Spanish studio called A2 Arquitectos has designed a chic bar in a rather unique spot. This bar is situated at the grand entrance to the Hams caves, which also features a lush botanical garden.

The standout feature of the project is a 15-meter-wide counter made of glass plates that are backlit. This counter, shaped like a parallelepiped, is set into a square cement cavity, creating a striking contrast with the natural, irregular rock formations of the caves.

Using glass for the counter introduces a material with opposite characteristics to the rock’s heaviness and opacity. The backlighting makes the glass counter stand out clearly against the natural backdrop, making it easy to locate.

At night, the light from the counter, combined with indirect lighting around the cave rocks, illuminates the entire entrance. The choice of green glass ties in with the surrounding greenery, creating a harmonious dialogue between the natural environment and the man-made structure.
