Do you remember the Fascist era when Albania was under the Savoy crown? The village near Saranda was called Porto Edda, in honor of Edda Ciano Mussolini. Today, we know this place as Saranda or, in Albanian, Sarandë. Situated in the southern part of the country, it is close to the border with Greece and not far from Corfu.
In this area, you’ll find the beautiful bay of Kakome, one of the most stunning and untouched beaches on the Balkan coast. There have been plans to develop a resort here, but for now, it remains a natural paradise.
The bay is shielded by hills that reach up to 800 meters and are covered in Mediterranean vegetation. There are two main stretches of sandy beach, though only one is easily reachable by road. Some roads, especially the one leading to the village of Nivice, are unpaved. Because of this, many locals prefer to travel by sea, often taking small boats from Port Emma.
