The Enchanting Shores of Starfish Beach in Bocas del Toro Isles

One of the most popular stops when visiting Costa Rica is Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, which is actually located in Bocas del Toro, Panama. Bocas del Toro is a group of small islands with stunning spots to explore. One notable place is Starfish Beach, the most visited spot in the Bocas del Toro archipelago.

This beautiful archipelago is about 40 kilometers from the Costa Rican border near the Caribbean. It’s often called the “Pearl of the Caribbean.” Back in the colonial era, it was a favorite of pirates and English merchants. The archipelago includes 10 main islands and over 50,200 smaller islands and cays. Before you head out, make sure you know how to travel from Bocas del Toro to Puerto Viejo de Talamanca!

One of the main islands, Isla Colon, features the well-loved Starfish Beach. Once you arrive, it’s a must to explore the beach and snap plenty of photos. Take a dip in the clear waters, and after lunch, soak up some sun and relax. The beach gets its name from the many starfish that dot the shoreline.

The magic of Starfish Beach is in watching the starfish freely while you swim and experience a sense of isolation from the rest of the world. In the afternoon, you might also spot some dolphins that come close to the coast.
